[hylafax-users] faxaddmodem stopped Unable to deduce DTE-DCE speed

Hello,

Distro Centos 5.2,
hylfax installed through rpm.

dmesg | grep tty
serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A

lspci shows
01:07.0 Communication controller: ESS Technology Unknown device 0898
(rev 02)

When I run faxaddmodem, selected default settings for the all the
parameter But stuck at

Probing for best speed to talk to modem: 38400 19200 9600 4800 2400 1200
Unable to deduce DTE-DCE speed; check that you are using the
correct device and/or that your modem is setup properly. If
all else fails, try the -s option to lock the speed.

How shall I configure hylfax-server?

Also I got this alert when it logged in as root
