Hi Raphael,

Check this works with Minicom (you should see 'ring' and be able to answer
the call with 'ata').

Check your setting for 'RingsBeforeAnswer' is greater than '0'.

Hi Raphael,

Please respond to the list so that other members can contribute or benefit
from your experience.

Here's a very simple guide to using Minicom;

http://www.mainpine.com/faqs/linux_ans/ans3_linux.htm

If you require further help please search on the web for 'Minicom'.... you
will find thousands of examples.

What you are trying to find out with Minicom is whether your modem and
telephone system are setup and working... this is a prerequisite of HylaFAX
and is the first step in understanding your issues.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your answer. I am very new with linux and I don't really know how
to use minicom.

RingsBeforeAnswer is set up at '1'.

My modem is a Zyxel Elite 2864I, I setted up in hylafax as a class 2.0 modem. Is

You may see hylafax activities logged in /var/log/syslog. All
configuration files for Debian are in /etc/hylafax. If you want to
change log level, please add or change "ServerTracing: 0xfff" in
your /etc/hylafax/config file and restart hylafax, or "SessionTracing:
0xfff" in your /etc/hylafax/config.* files.

Bye,
Giuseppe

RingsBeforeAnswer is in the modem configuration file. See the following for
more information;

http://hylafax.sourceforge.net/man/hylafax-config.php

>My modem is a Zyxel Elite 2864I, I setted up in hylafax as a class 2.0

>that right ?

Use Class 1 or 1.0 if they are available (Class 2, 2.0, and 2.1 is broken on
most modems).

>I've tried again and I am able to send a fax but not receive any...... and
when
>I am connected with minicom, and I do call the modem, I can't see

Try using Minicom to dial a number with your modem. Your cell phone is good
because you can hear it ring and answer the call easily. The modem will
require an ATDT command - ATtention Dial Tone - and this will be in the
format ATDT0123456789 (replace 0123456789 with your cell number). The
purpose of this test is to ensure that your modem can make calls with
Minicom. If that works then calling the modem from your cell phone should
give you the 'ring' message in the terminal window. Once you can make and
receive calls then you can proceed to HylaFAX.

Hi Raphael,

This seems to be working when you dial out.

When you call the modem from the cell phone what do you hear on the cell
phone speaker ? A busy tone, ring-ring, something else maybe ? What
happens if you plug a phone into the same line does it ring when you call
from the cell phone ?

Hi Raphael,

So, this is ISDN.... Is the number you are trying to call allowed to receive
calls ? Have you tested this line with an ISDN phone ? If this is a BRI
then you probably have multiple numbers (one for each ISDN channel)... are
you calling the correct number ?

Hi Raphael,

Page 18 of the 2864I user manual tells you how to test your ISDN connection
by sending a call on one channel and receiving on the other.... what happens
if you do this ?

Here's a link to the user manual;

Hi Andrew

I hear the correct ring-ring when I call the modem. And when I do so, I can see
one little led getting light. I guess I am dialing the correct number.

Thanks, Raph

Hi Raphael,

Which led is illuminated when you call ?

Have you read section 5 of the user manual - ISDN Communication Basics ?

Hi Raphael,

From page 8 of the user manual - "B1 channel connection indicator; lights up
when B1 channel is established".

I think the user manual tells you everything you need to know, including
instructions on how to test that you can send and receive calls. Can I
suggest that you work through the manual, call zyxel support if required,
and then come back to HylaFAX once you know that everything is working ? As
I said before, until the basic modem functionality is proven you will
struggle to make any progress with HylaFAX.

Hi Andrew,
I finally made it work, with an update of the firmware and then some
configuration with some parameters from this website :
http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/modems-telephone-ISDN/U-Z/ZYXEL-COMMUNICATIONS-CORPORATION-Modem-synchronous-119.html

I wanna receive fax through email as pdf documents, is it easy to set this up ?

Hi Raphael,

I'm glad to hear that you've got your ISDN setup working.

With regards to your pdf question I'd suggest you take a look at the help
available on the HylaFAX/HylaFAX+ websites. Here's an example from the
HylaFAX+ how-to that deals with pdf mail delivery.

Hi Raphael,

I've never used this modem and can't therefore comment on your specific
'wedging' issue. Setting ServerTracing to 0xfff in the modem config file
and posting the logs here is probably the next step that you should make.
Maybe someone else on the list who has ISDN experience can help you debug
the modem.

What I will say is that if this is business critical then think about moving
to an analog solution..... in my opinion you will get access to the best fax
boards if you are using an analog interface.
