Hello everyone,

I am trying to setup a fax server. Outgoing faxes are sent ok, but there
are problems when receiving incoming faxes.
There are some sites where the fax is received ok, but there are
particular sites when this problem occurs. This usually
happens when there are many pages being sent to the faxserver. I have
noticed however that the error message is always the same
: "Failed to properly detect high-speed data carrier"

I have tried changing the configuration of the modem from xonxoff
(software flowcontrol) to rtscts (hardware flow control) but
the problem still persists.

The system consists of the following :
Intel Pentium 120MHz CPU
USR Sportster 33600 FAX Modem v4.3.179
Slackware Linux 10.0
Hylafax-4.2.0
patched libtiff-3.6.1

I included part of the log on this post. I removed some parts as it is long.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?
Is it a line problem?
Or does the modem have a problem?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Here's the error. See that the modem did not respond with a CONNECT
message after AT+FTH=3 ? That indicates a problem of some kind, and,
as we can see below, it occurred because the modem was in the middle of
a reset.

Notice here that we have echo turned on. However, HylaFAX disables
echo before every fax, so we know that the modem was reset.

And the error message here tells us that we're on-hook, which confirms
that the modem did reset.

My guess is that there is a bug in the USR firmware associated with
AT+FRS commands. You could try disabling +FRS and +FTS. Look at the
Topic config file (config/topic) on how to do this.

Lee.

Hello Lee,

Thank you very much for answering my questions. I tried to disable +FTS
and +FRS as you have suggested.
I have tested this morning and it seems to be ok. I plan to run more
test next week.

regards,
Jay
