Hi People,
I am using Class 1 IAX Modems with Asterisk 11 and Hylafax+ 5.5.5.
On 5 to 6 % of my faxes, I get this error message "No Answer from Remote ,
To many attempts dial"
If I call this number 6317278320, I can hear a fax tone after a couple of
rings. Why does the modem give up on it ? Here is a sample log. Please Help

Is this fax line set in Asterisk with a hotline option (Avaya can hotline an extension to pre-dial a digit) to dial a 1. If not I’d say unless you’re outside the U.S. you need a 1 before the area code.

iaxmodem up through v1.2.0 has a hard-coded 45-second timer for an
answer to come after dialing.
One could rightly call this a bug since the spandsp library appears to
correctly use the S7 register (which HylaFAX sets to 60 seconds).
That said... 45 seconds to wait before an answer is a long time. What is
going on that is making the dialing take so long?

You're running into the 45-second timeout. To get iaxmodem to use the
S7 register as HylaFAX and the universe intended you can modify iaxmodem
as shown here:

However, whether or not that will help I cannot say. 45 seconds is a
long time to go without Asterisk seeing the remote answer the call.
You're welcome to patch your iaxmodem, but I would recommend trying to
figure out why Asterisk isn't seeing the remote answer the call, because
I suspect that you'll run into the same problem no matter the length of
the timeout.

figure out why Asterisk isn't seeing the remote answer the call, because
I suspect that you'll run into the same problem no matter the length of
the timeout.
