Hi! I'm getting this "HylaFAX Error: 530 Login incorrect"  when i try to send fax using WinPrintHylafax or any other Hylafax client.(so far i tested it with WinPrintHylaFax and HylaFront)

I'm using Mandrake10.1 with hylafax 4.2.0 for the fax server and on the WinXP clients i'm using WinPrintHylafax 1.2.0.

I configured the same login credentials at the HFAX1 port as i have in the fax server.

Did anyone else have this problem before? how was it solved?

Thanks.

This appears to be a fairly common problem, and is almost always a result
of misinterpreting how the hosts.hfaxd is going to be interpreted by
hylafax.

For comparison, and possible enlightenment, here's my hosts.hfaxd:
localhost
127.0.0.1
10.168.0.[0-9]+

Note that WinPrintHylaFAX still requires a login name, even though a
password isn't necessary from localhost or from the 10.168.0.x network in
the above example.

Hi Michael, thanks for your reply.

Since i'm not too familiar how to configure hosts.hfaxd, can anyone help see if mine is correct?

Here's my hosts.hfaxd:
localhost
127.0.0.1
10.7

My fax server is using 10.7.2.14/255.255.0.0 and the clients are using 10.7.101x/255.255.0.0. They are all in the same subnet.

Is my hosts.hfaxd correct?

Thanks.

The third line below should work:

localhost
127.0.0.1
10.7.101.[0-9]+
10.7.[0-9]+

I'm not sure about the fourth one, it's either that or 10.7.[0-9]+.[0-9]+

Hi Michael,

I tried your suggestion but it still doesn't work. I still keep getting Error 530 login incorrect whenever i try to send a fax. Can you explain to me why you added the [0-9]+ in the IP address? Does anyone else have any experience setting up hylafax in a Class B environment?

Should this not look like

??

Thanks.

Try again without the final period - was a typo from my side. Sorry

10.7.0.0/16

I don't think HylaFAX has ever supported CIDR style clients in
hosts.hfaxd.

Have you looked closely at the host.hfaxd man page?

Each newline-terminated entry is a set of colon (:) separated
fields, all but the first of which are optional. Trail- ing
null fields and their separators may be omitted. The most
general form is:

client:uid:passwd:adminwd

client is a regular expression to be matched against a string
``user@host'' that is formed from the user string passed to hfaxd
with the USER command and the official host name or the DARPA
Internet address, specified in ``dot notation''. If client
does not contain an ``@'' then, for backwards compatibility, it
is treated as a host for which any user may have access; i.e. it
is automatically converted to the regular expression
``^.*@client$''.

Yes i know. I typed it in as 10.7.0.0/16 :)

I even tried to change my fax server IP to 10.7.101.X to match with the clients IP range but still it wont work. I'm still getting error 530.

Could it be anything other than hosts.hfaxd thats causing the error?

Thanks.

It's possible, but since you continue to use the wrong syntax, it's a
pretty safe bet that hosts.hfaxd is the source of the error.

10.7.0.0/16 should NOT work

10.7.[0-9]+.[0-9]+ is the correct syntax; see man hosts.hfaxd for more
details.

Hi Michael,

Sorry for the late reply.
I've changed my hosts.hfaxd as shown below:

localhost
127.0.0.1

10.7.[0-9]+.[0-9]+

I'm still getting error 530 login incorrect :(

Please help!

Hi!

The rights on hosts.hfaxd was 644. I've changed it to 600 now.

It works!

But now i have another problem....
I'm getting this message when i try to send faxes:

Your job to 20937719 was not sent because:
    Unknown problem (check modem power)

The job will be retried at 13:58.
