Hi,

I finally setup a Mail to Fax Gateway with Postfix and Hylafax (4.4.4). Sending the mails to a fax machine works very well. The only problem that I have is the bad quality. As soon as I try to attach a *.pdf file - the fax is sent, but the quality of the convert seems to be a problem. I already tryed to enable pdf2ps in "typerrules" - but that didnt fix my problem.

I am running:

Hylafax 4.4.4

ghostscript 8.62

It's probably because of a dithering problem... probably because your
source document is not monochrome.

Try adding the following line into /var/spool/hylafax/etc/FaxModify

DITHERING=libtiff-fs

Hi Lee,

just created the file..and put "DITHERING=libtiff-fs" in it - it didnt change anything about the quality. Output is still the same. Do I need to set special rights on that FaxModify file? Do I need to tell hylafax to use that File or will it be automaticly used ?

I had understood that DITHERING was an option in hylafax.org 4.4.4, but
truthfully I can't be certain without going through the effort to
download the code and look.

I use HylaFAX+ 5.3.0 (http://hylafax.sourceforge.net) if you want to see
it there.

we use Hylafax+ 5.3.0 and also here the FaxModify with DITHERING didn't
change anything.

How are you submitting the fax?

How have you altered your configuration from the default?

Please supply me with a sample fax document and a copy of the resulting
bad image.
