Hi all!
Is there anybody there, who could provide me a scan of a specific panel from Barks' story WDC 43-02 Three Dirty Little Ducks? The one where Donald is luring HDL with "Pre War Bon bons". I only have WDC300 reprint where that "pre-war" part is omitted from the candy box.Thanks in advance!
Best WishesTimo

Hi Timo,

> there anybody there, who could provide me a scan of a specific panel

That's the page you're looking for:
http://www.papersera.net/appo/preWarBonBons.png

While you (or anyone else) are here, consider to participate to the current
Papersera survey, aimed to decide the best Scarpa story: after a long run,
where all his stories were voted.

We're now having the final showdown with "Topolino e la collana Chirikawa"
( https://coa.inducks.org/s.php?c=I+TL++230-AP ) versus "Topolino e la
Dimensione Delta" ( https://coa.inducks.org/s.php?c=I+TL++206-AP ), you can
vote your preferred story (after registering an username) here:

Enjoy! :-)

Hello!
Thats the one! Thanks a heap!
Both Topolino e la collana Chirikawa and Dimensione Delta are very good stories. The scene with the Mickey's hypnotic flashback is great. I also love the Il doppio mistero di Slim Magretto e la casa degli svedesi story. But that's written by Guido Martina.

Best WishesTimo

> luring HDL with "Pre War Bon bons".

I was wondering: does "pre-war" mean "ancient", metaphorically, in English, as
it does in Greek? I find the idea of having a box proclaiming that it contains
pre-war bonbons quite funny. (Eating said bonbons is, of course, not funny at
all, which I assume is the reason for the modification in the story's reprint.)

Kriton,

No, I'd say it is either a rationing joke (candy is so rare during rationing that the only way you can still have bon-bons is for them to have been made before the war, i.e. before ingredients were rationed), or a joke on the often poorer quality of goods available under rationing, which often persisted into the post-war years (manufacturers who had figured out how to cut corners from necessity often kept rounding those corners even it was no longer strictly necessary, as it often saved money for them, and consumer expectations had been sufficiently lowered for them to get away with it).

It surely is joke about rationing. Pre-war goodies were better (sugar was the first item to be rationed straight from the 1942). Donald is hiding one box in his drawer. But in the end it would be silly to print "pre war" on the box produced before the war, when they didn't know if the war was coming :D (but of course it's just a silly sight gag).
