VAX 11/730 (3MB main memory, 110MB disk, 4 dialin/out, 0 users
[uucp/usenet/internet gateway], 4.2BSD),
Ridge 32C (4MB main memory, 370MB disk, SysV & 4.2BSD layered over
ROS 3.3, 0 users [compute server]),
SGI IRIS 1500 Color Graphics Workstation (68k, geometry engine,
SysV with 4.2 enhancements and TCP/IP),
Intel iPSC hypercube (32 nodes, delivery 8/19/85),
BBN and Forward Technology bitgraph terminals,
as well as plans and a budget for:
color graphics system (unspecified),
workstations (unspecified).
All machines are networked together (TCP), and all have full access to
MILNet, ARPANet, and UUCP.
The systems programmer would work on problems such as:
Simulators for new memory architectures that will be used as
components of autonomous robotic systems in the Space Station
Project.
Creation of high performance workstations for use in the Space
Sciences and Human Factors branches.
Support for multimedia and private network telecommunications
as part of scientific collaboration.
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) research, using an IRIS
workstation as tool to develop flow simulations and also as
front end for a Cray-2 and other supercomputers in the Numerical
Aerodynamic Simulation (NAS) project.
Currently there are 19 people at RIACS, including five summer students and
10 research scientists. Our environment is university-like, however, our
salaries are on par with industry. We are located at the NASA Ames Research
Center in Mountain View, California. (We are an EOE employer.)
We are looking for someone with a solid UNIX systems programming
