Well, I started promoting this several (5?) years ago here as an
alternative to Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving. If we are going to have an
anarchist harvest festival, why not in mid-November during an official
patriotic holiday? They coopt our holdiay's, so why can't we pay them back.

I see nothing wrong with observing Armistice Day, but if I didn't know what
that November 11 was Armsitice Day, than most people probably don't. I
think most people look on Veteran's Day as a patriotic holiday, if not just
a day when the mail isn't delivered. November 11 is the anniversary of the
Haymarket execution, which I think we should remember somehow.

Sheesh, I can't believe the amount of crap I've gotten about this. Are
anarchists a humorless lot that can't have some fun?

The demo here in D.C. today at noon to protest Shell's involvement in
Nigeria drew around 75-100 people. We handed out lots of leaflets. Around
10 local anarchists turned out.

On a negative note, the demonstration was not bold enough to challenge the
DC cop when he told them that wearing masks in DC on days other than
Halloween was illegal. Bullshit. The demonstrators complied, which toned
down an otherwise well-planned street theater.

Shit, I'm willing to get arrested for wearing a fucking mask. If we can't
wear costumes at our demos, then we might as well eschew nonviolence right
fucking now.
