Here's an update on some initiatives/resources that are available through SPEC School Gardens Program for 2026
Available Programming
The SGP has updated our programming to reflect the current landscape of environmental education. Programs range from in person facilitated garden lessons, specialized (grade specific) workshops, ProD workshops, Lunch & Learns, after school garden clubs and summer garden camps.
We also support not-for-profits and municipalities with programming as well.
To inquire or book, please fill out the program booking request form.
New! Afterschool Garden Clubs
SPEC has piloted a new fully subsidized program between the hours of 3pm to 5pm. We have some funds remaining to support one additional inner city school in either Vancouver or Richmond. Please email me directly and I will share the Intake Form.
Recruiting Volunteers for Spring
SPEC is currently recruiting volunteers for the School Gardens Program. This is a flexible, short term opportunity for volunteers 17-65+ years. The Program requires energetic volunteers to assist with organic gardening and food education activities for children and youth, outside on school grounds or nearby green spaces from April to the end of June 2026. Volunteers must have previous experience working with ages 5-18 years and have some physical stamina as there are prolonged periods of standing. The full volunteer posting can be found here. Please share with those who might be interested in applying.
Garden Site Assessments
Garden site assessments are available now until the end of March for K-12 schools and Not-for-Profit organizations hoping to plan for a learning garden or seeking to improve an existing garden space. Assessments are $150 which includes an in person site visit, and a detailed written report with recommendations. Both forms can be found on our website.
Summer Garden Camps
SPEC is offering garden camps this summer break by partnering with other organizations that have a learning garden or community garden space connected to Out of School Care. If you would like to learn more please either email me directly or fill out the program booking request form.
Teaching Resources
SPEC is in the process of upgrading our curricular resource focused on ecological literacy with a grade specific curriculum. For now, you can access free resources via the the Neighbourhood Nature School portion of our website. Two new lesson plans will be posted by the end of March.
