Preserving the Future is a food preservation project from Growing Opportunities Farm Community Co-op. Funded by the Island Health Wellness Grant, the project aims to nourish our community. Led by Elise Boulanger and supported by Josh Irlam, Preserving the Future is partnering with local farmers, preservationists, Knowledge Keepers, schools, and community groups to improve local food security.

Every Tuesday starting November 14th, we invite you, the public, to Wellington Secondary from 5:30-8:30 pm to learn and become more food secure. We will gather in one of the school’s kitchens and both learn and practice food preservation techniques.

The goals of this project is to equitably increase food security and emergency preparedness, access to nourishing food, social connectedness, understanding and value for traditional knowledge, connections, for diverse communities within the mid-island region.

Teachers, if you are interested in either leading or having an expert visit your class, please reach out. Preserving the Future team has access to mobile dehydrators, canning supplies, resources and more.
