Good morning!

I wanted to begin by announcing that a there will be a new Community Animator for the Kamloops region beginning June 24th. Some of you may know Sonya Rokosh, who has been involved with Farm to School BC in the past, as well as the Kamloops Food Policy Council. She also works as a teacher in School District 83, so is well suited to this position! Sonya happens to be a good friend of mine and I know that you are being left in good hands! I am remaining "in the movement", but will be focussing on my work with Shuswap Food Action Society and school meal programs, so may see some of you in the future! The past two years have been a bit unusual in this role with COVID, but we are hopeful that things are settling and more in-person activities can be resumed! If you would like to contact, Sonya will have the same email address as before (kamloop...@farmtoschoolbc.ca)

Before you depart for the summer, I wanted to make a few announcements:

A big congratulations to Sullivan Secondary School for being the recipients of our Pollinator Award. Nimmi Erasmus, culinary arts teacher, has been integrating Farm to school principles into the SASS cafeteria, sourcing from local farmers when possible and engaging students in new flavours. This year, they hosted a local food entrepreneur, Scott McKnight from Beast and Block, to come in and do a workshop on butchery and sausage-making with their Farm to School grant.

Secondly, if your school PAC is looking for a fundraiser for next year, BC Ag in the Classroom is accepting application for its Fresh To You Fundraiser, selling bulk BC fruits and vegetables to parents in the fall.

Finally, a reminder that Farm to School will be having another granting period, likely starting next October, so if you are looking for a school garden or food literacy initiative, stay tuned!!

putucw!
