Good afternoon! A few reminders:
KTTA Spring Celebration: Are you an SD 73 teacher trying to decide what to do on KTTA day? Farm to School is partnering with local organizations to host an in-person Spring Celebration at Arthur Hatton with may special guests and lots of food! We have Simone Jennings reviewing the new Ministry resource Teach Foods First, chef Adam Florence reviewing knife skills and safety in the classroom and then some hands-on cooking activities with Natalie Cryderman from Mt Paul Community Food Centre and myself using recipes from SD 73's new food literacy website,
https://handsonfood.ca/. Come ready to eat! In the afternoon, we will head over to Butler Urban Farm and learn fun ways of engaging students in the garden and have Sara Butler talking about seed saving activities. This will be a great in-person event with prizes and food, so I hope you will join us!
Monday, April 25th, Arthur Hatton 9 am. See details at register here.
Pollinator Award- If you know a school in SD 73 or 83 that is demonstrating outstanding leadership in farm to school initiatives, please nominate at
https://farmtoschoolbc.ca/pollinator-award/. The deadline for the pollinator award has been extended to April 25th.
Secwepemc Plant Knowledge Cards: Neskonlith Education Center is selling sets of plant cards for $30. Includes picture of plant, uses and Secwepemc name. I have attached the order form.
Reminder that SD 73 has done a soft-launch of their new food literacy website,
www.handsonfood.ca, with lesson plans relating to growing, harvesting, cooking and preserving food. We will be doing a number of the activities at our KTTA pro-d! Hope to see you there!
