Hallo everyone,

would it be possible to write a tool converting automatically a GP2 track to a F1GP track? Both share the same CC line concepts right?
Such tool would benefit from the tons of GP2 tracks...

Cheers,
DB

Hello,

Yes, that would theoretically be possible.

ArgTrack editor has the ability to import GP2 tracks, and this was the idea behind it.
However, in practice, there are manual modifications that need to be done after importing the tracks. If we had full understanding of how the CC line format worked, it would be easier.

1) which manual modifications are needed exactly?
2) where do we have lack of full understanding? CC line in F1GP or CC line in GP2 ?

1) When importing a GP2 track, you need to manually modify the CC line.
2) There is a lack of understanding of the CC line format in F1GP.

You can try this by importing a track from GP2 that has an identical layout like in F1GP (e.g. Japan). The track will be undriveable for the CC cars because the CC line is incorrect.

The most difficult thing is to get a correct CC line and correct pit layout. This is a problem with ArgTrack and it was also a problem with the old open source editor ChequeredFlag.
This is the main thing that is preventing people from easily making new F1GP tracks.

Cheers
