When I go to the game it always asks me to re-calibrate my controller. Really frustrating. I'm using a gamepad at present but in time I'm going to link up my Logitech wheel.
Anybody know of a fix to stop the re-calibration?
Thanks

Hello Michael,

I'm not aware of a fix for that in the game, although I'm not that experienced with playing with joysticks. Maybe someone else knows a solution.

However, there is a workaround that you could use. You can use a SVN build of DOSBox that has the savestate feature, like DOSBox SVN Daum. After you calibrate the joystick, Save State using DOSBox.

Next time you to start the game, when it asks you to re-calibrate the joystick, Load State using DOSBox. This is like loading from a restore point.

I'm not sure how stable this feature is in the long term, though. Given that you effectively never restart the game, it might cause crashes in the long term. There could also be issues if you use TSR patches.

Cheers,
Hrvoje

Just keep in mind that the different DOSBox SVN builds might use different joystick axis ranges, which could affect the steering sensitivity.

DOSBox SVN Daum

Dosbox SVN r4019 + savestates Build (Alpha)
(this one seems to have the same axis range as the original DOSBox)

Hey everybody, welcome to the group Michael.

My thinking is that the game state should be fully restored so barring any Dosbox SVN bugs, TSR patches should just be restored and work as if they had never been stopped. I personally wouldn't expect any issues there, although ultimately Hrvoje could be right :)

Hi Hrvoje and Endeavour. Thanks for your welcome to the group and thanks for your reply to my query.

It is really strange this issue. It also happened in my Indycar Racing 1 game too. I'm running dfend Reloaded version of Dosbox. I know it's not everybody's favourite and that the other versions you mentioned are better. You see I kind of like and have got used to dfend as it is user friendly and easy for me been a Dosbox newbie. It's possibly dfend that is to blame for this issue. Maybe I'll look at the other builds or inside dfend there's joystick settings and there may be a save state equivalent? You see other Dosbox builds worry me. I've tried to follow online guides to mount games, but I always fail to get them to work. When I discovered and first used dfend I was happy that I could at least run my Dosbox games like GP1,2, ICR1 and ICR2 and NASCAR 1 & 2.

Anyway thanks for all your help.I will certainly look at and try the other builds. Cheers

No joy I'm afraid. I've looked in dfend Dosbox but there seems to be no save state.
Ah well guess I'll have to live with it and calibrate controller every time I enter game.
I haven't set up my Logitech G27 wheel, with the game as yet ( gamepad for now) so with a bit of luck, when I set up the wheel, I may not get the calibration hopefully?

I think the game will always require calibration if the steering is set to joystick.
I don't think it depends on the actual device, as the game itself doesn't know the difference.

In any case, I wish you luck with your gameplay :)

Thank you for confirmation. I'm going to swap over to my wheel eventually and hopefully, like I said earlier, it will alleviate my issue. Cheers
