Hi all,

Perhaps you're aware a 'basically F1GP' mod was released for rFactor and Automobilista some time ago.

As the Automobilista 'physics guy' I've been spending a lot of time recreating the F1GP feel in the modern sim, and I am surprised how close it is. Video where I compare them: https://youtu.be/-fjYeDcfcIg . My hope is to get close enough, and then we can actually race F1GP style physics online.. :-)

Tire wear is yet to be done and I saw the amazing tire wear spreadsheet by Hrvoje Stimac.

Is there any information about the actual grip gain and loss in % from tire wear?

Is there just an overall loss of grip, or do you get relatively more under or oversteer when tires wear?

If anyone wants to try the Automobilista version and provide some feedback, I've setup a discord server that you can join here: https://discord.gg/f8d2QJJY

Thanks,
Niels

Hello Niels,

We have a spreadsheet where you can see the way in which grip is calculated for each track, both in dry and wet conditions.
The grip level applies generally. But depending on the car setup (front/rear wing and brake bias), it will affect understeer and oversteer differently.

As a human player, you typically want to play with a higher front wing than rear wing setting, and dominant rear brake bias. You mostly feel the lack of grip on the rear end. More wheelspin in lower gears, and oversteer in higher speed corners.
The computer controlled cars use a neutral wing setup (same front and rear wing). But when their grip is challenged through increasing the aggressiveness setting (late braking), they will typically also lose the rear end going into corners.

We also have a tool, a TSR patch, that can display the current grip level (as a number) as you drive, along with some other game related variables.

I will send the information to your email.

Cheers,
Hrvoje

Hey Hrvoje,

Sorry for replying so late, I've been chatting with Rene in the discord and improving the AMS version based on his info. We found some cool little things.
Thanks for your work as well!

Hey Niels,

I watched the YouTube video of what you've done, it's really impressive. The detail is amazing.

Maybe an F1GP Discord is a good idea too that we haven't thought about here?

Regards,

Barrie

Niels,

It's great that you were able to make some progress.

I saw one of your YouTube videos where you had some interesting data. Stuff like how the front and rear wing settings affect the top speed and acceleration, etc.
Maybe when you're done with the mod, you could share this data from your spreadsheets. It could be useful for car setup and other stuff.

Cheers

Hello Hrvoje,

Where do I find the spreadsheet that show the WET conditions grip? I'd be very interested in it. Is there a tab that I'm not pressing in the dry spreadsheet?

I've often thought a great leveler for wet conditions would be to adjust the wet tyre wear to somewhere around a D wear rate, or even a higher wear rate than a D, closer to a Q. Is there any tutorial on how to do this. Thanks, and great job. Dave.

Hello,

In wet conditions the grip level is almost constant. The tyres wear a bit, but extremely slowly. Even in the longest possible race it is not worth pitting for new tyres.

In theory, the grip level for each tyre compound could be changed. I agree that this could bring some excitement.
For wet races I'm not sure how difficult it would be to implement pit stops like in dry races. Because normally there are no tyre stops given the tyres don't wear out.

Unfortunately, we don't have any editors that can do that.

In this spreadsheet you can see the relative grip level for the different tyre compounds at each track (tabs Tyre Grip Dry and Tyre Grip Wet):

Cheers
