Acceleration as a Control Command

Hi, Greetings

I believe by default, the car (in simulation and on actual hardware )can only accepts speed and steering angle as control commands.
is it possible to control the car through desired acceleration? My control algorithm computes acceleration, so is there any way where I can pass acceleration commands at least in simulation?
