Corporate giant owned teams and longevity do not seem to be the case in F1. Honda, Renault, BMW, Ford (Jaguar), and Toyota have all come and gone, at least once. Pressures to Corporate Boards, stockholders, corporate bureaucracy and general malaise would question the amount of time and money will last without short term success at Mercedes.

So he's finally made the move. I'm not sure what exactly has prompted him to wave goodbye to the organisation responsible for his entire racing history and numerous successes. Since there was virtual parity in the end between the value of either contract (except perhaps for the fact that he won't be restricted to just one sponsor now) it appears his move has been driven by an expectation that the combination of Mercedes and Ross Brawn will bring him another DWC or two.

But then McLaren are more than capable of doing that and Mercedes, so far after three seasons, have enjoyed just the one win. Does he think that the new engines etc from 2014 will mean Mercedes are better placed than McLaren to deliver a winning car? Surely with McLaren ramping up their road supercar production using their own in house engines it isn't rocket science to assume they will come up with their own F1 unit within the next three years? And just because Ross Brawn will be team boss isn't a sure fire ticket to a DWC either. He might have proved himself a strategic genius but without a fast and reliable car to work with he's no more influential than the next man.

So I can only assume that despite all the advantages of driving for McLaren it's all gone stale for him there. The grass always looks greener the other side of the fence but I wonder if he'll actually find it's a similar shade?

It is curious how quickly Brawn was able to succeed after leaving the Honda corporate reigns and how quickly that success disappeared after being shackled by the Mercedes corporate reigns.

Lewis needs to move on, his time at McLaren has been a growth and coming of age and, like all children, he needs to leave home to find out how good it is/was. I can't see Merc delivering more than Macca either.

I do think Jenson will change next year, and he'll have to. Jense is an old stager and Perez will be out to impress.

I hope Michael just leaves. The prospect of him getting in everyone's way in a Sauber is too awful to contemplate.

I think MS will become some sort of racing consultant so I think he'll be hanging up his helmet for good this time. It'll be interesting to see the reaction from the diehard Schumiphiles when Lewis matches or out performs Nico .That'll be a change to see the second Merc performing for once {:0) If Massa gets the push I wonder if he'll be in the Sauber.
