Recap - Toastmasters January 9, 2021 Meeting

Hello Fellow Toastmasters,
Happy New Year All!
We had an impactful first meeting of the year 2021! I would like to extend another warm welcome to our newest member India Gordon, and to our longtime guest David Brackus. The meeting theme “New Year” steered us in the direction to take an insightful look of what’s ahead for 2021. Toastmaster, Sarah Cocking encouraged us to make resolutions that are specific, measurable, and achievable. Also, speaker, Linh Nguyen in her speech “Small Acts of Kindness” encouraged the audience to do this often because it can be powerful, as well as, give encouragement and courage to others. The table topic session was led by Debika Bhattacharya and David Brackus. Both asked questions related to the New Year and New Year’s resolutions. Although table topic speeches are not critiqued, Debika reminded us, it gives an opportunity to develop two skills. How to present within one to two minutes, and how to deliver an impromptu speech. Speakers expressed views, such as, writing resolutions down can make a difference; taking care of current moments and let the year take care of itself; and the pursuit of happiness because it is a fundamental right. Great way to begin the year!
