Hello Fellow Toastmasters,

Toastmaster Debika Bhattacharya chose the metaphor “Life is Like an Ocean” as the meeting theme.  She used this figure of speech to describe how life is covered in waves and there is always motion just like an ocean.

We heard two prepared speeches.  Linh spoke about “The Downside of Economic Recovery”.  In her research, she found some of the downsides were the rise in prices in food and gasoline.  This is due to the increase in consumer consumption and demand as the economy re-opens.  She told us it is best to budget our spending.  A way to prioritize.  JohRich gave a humorous speech title “Restroom Etiquette: Taking a dump in a dressing room is never a good idea”.  It was a mind-blowing hilarious speech about what he witnessed and heard while in a Kohl’s dressing room.

The Table Topics session was led by Sarah Cocking.  During this time Nishu told us, as we are Rising Stars, to look for the north star to help us reach our goals.  Our guest Ruben Martinez talked about how he does not like the ocean because of the things that can hurt our bodies.  Debika, if stranded on an ocean or island, would choose to be with her grandmother because she was wise and a fearless fighter.

Our evaluators Nishu and David did a great job.  A method to giving effective feedback can be learned from David, who is a master evaluator.  He begins each evaluation with sharing his technique with the speaker.   Many thanks to Helen’s invited guests Ruben Martinez and Francisco Vega, and to DTM, Javier Florez for attending.

Have a happy and safe holiday weekend everyone!
