I still have work to do on this but at least I got it all the way through the song. I will go at it fresh tomorrow, and no doubt make your voxless mix...

Leo-

I'd like to make a suggestion to change part of the lyrics. I suggest to change "Blow up the chains and you can be free", to "Throw off the chains and you can be free". So "blow up" becomes "throw off".

I have appointments this a.m. but when I get back into the studio I want to work up the chords for this. As I got more into the bass I realized that the chords don't feel right against your voice on this. So when I get back into the studio I will get the guitar out and try to make it right. I am quite sure I know what to do to fix this. We'll see once i get in there... More later...

Hello brows!! I´m very busy these days, a lot of changes in my office.
Fred, I´ll change the lyrics, the next take will be recorded with the modification.
The guitar and vocal needs to be changed to enter in the wheather...
You will try to do the base guitar? I´ll prepare another one too, but not yet.

I didn't get any studio time today. I'll try to post a mix for you to sing against tomorrow. I know you said you want a mix wether it's finished or not (bass & guitar). Hope to get this for you tomorrow. Have a good night!

I didn't change the chords you are using Leo. Rather I just changed the arrangement you were using. There was just one place that needed to change back to an earlier chord. Under where you sing "L--I--F--E". The very last chord you had in there didn't change back, before you started the progression again, and now it does change back. It suits this better the way it is now if you ask me. Have a listen and see if you agree. I may come back and do the very end of the song again on the bass, to add some more to it. I am hitting single notes on the bass on the ending now. It's ok, but I could add some more flare to it. I didn't work on the bass at all today. I took awhile and setup all my guitar etc, and then realized I didn't need to redo the guitar. You had all the parts there, they just needed to be arranged. So that's what I did. Just the one chord going back to the earlier chord, where your original arrangement didn't change back at the end of the progression (under the word LIFE, where you hold it). I'm liking this now... suits my ear...

Fred, I´m hearing it now...this version is rearanged? Its sounding good to me...well you did a great job, the music was born very simple with nothing special, no variations, but the bass and percursion gives a new atmosphere... I´ll rec another take tomorrow and send to you for mix, I was thinking, the AC idea of a flute line is very interesting, can agregate a new feel and turn it more original.
Great Job, I´m very satisfied with the results, AC, can you prepare somethink for us?
I´ll send the vocal..no FX tomorrow!
The end bass part...its different, can stay this idea, its like a flag(advertising) for the end, sound good too.

Yes I just made a very small change to the chord arrangement. I put in one chord under the word L--I--F--E, where you used another. Just the one chord change. That would be considered a change in the chord arrangement yes. Actually your vocal pointed the way to this chord change, but I didn't identify it until I began working on the bass line. Sounds fine now. I may do some more work on the dynamics of the bass, but it will not change what I have in place now very much. I'd like to hear the builds done better in my bass. I'd like to hear the bass build up under the word L--I--F--E, but that is "icing on the cake" as they say. I can do that later.

After uploading it is usually slow to put up a link to the file for me. I can usually force it to give me the link by clicking the folder I uploaded into on the left hand side. Once I click that folder on the left it usually gives me the link right away. Something to remember next time you upload.

Cool.

Leo-

It's the vocal that you sent me just before you left, mixed there. I agree that clearing your mind and another take would be good. I was not able to make the backing vocal you sent work. Looking forward to what you come up with in the future.

Hehehe...now I found the flute mix... cool.
Well, It´s very clear I have to change completely the vocals, because the song take a soft way and the flute gives a complement for the vocal, i dont have to sustain the final notes anymore. I´ll try to do something light and with chorus... I´m getting the way..
Fred, the latest mix button on quickstart page is a great idea!

I don't know if a lot of people realize this but the streaming player that 4shared.com puts on each page for each track uploaded, is embedable. They give us the code to embed the player for each track on any page we want. So I had thought to put this player on the quickstart page, for latest mix.

If you look at the STATUS window at the top of this project's page (click the title of this project in the notification e-mail), you'll see how the embeded player can be used. I even have control over the size of it. Take a look! This 4shared.com service is a godsend for us! You could never ask for a better free service to give you 5 gigs for free, and full control of the files. I love that service!

Yes I will be putting these players on the quickstart as time permits. Also in the STATUS window of each page.

I am thinking to move the members pictures to a different page that is at the bottom of the quickstart, so it opens faster. Always new ideas in my head to make life better here at F-Jam.

Guys-

His flute doesn't indicate singing softer if you ask me. AC's idea works, but might need to give the vocals a little more room. The feel seems to work as I listen, but in places it feels like it's competing with the vox. I'll have to listen some more. I didn't think you need to sing softer Leo. Just my opinion. Of course I could change my opinion once I heard your idea sung.

It occurs to me that maybe AC's flute should be an octave higher, to set it apart from the octave of the guitar. I'd like to suggest AC doing something similare but an octave higher. Just to test how it sits in the mix. The vocals, and the guitar are all in the same octave range. If the flute is too it doesn't complement like it could Can we try a similar take but an octave higher? Just putting out ideas...

Taking in all the comments and suggestions and I like the idea of the playing it an octave higher. will give it a go tonight and see what comes out. The competing with the vocals thing also worried me as I was playing. I tried to make it simple so as to complement and not compete but if any of the phrasings don't work too well we can always change them. I'll upload a new flute mix tonight.

My latest mix uses a different vocal than did AC. He used an older mix for flute audition.

It feels like he is letting to flute go into a different key too. He seems to go into a different key in places... The idea flies though.

Check out the status window for this project. I've added AC to the roster for flute, and updated the latest mix. This illustrates how the streaming player can go right into the status window. The download button is now direct instead of opening the 4shared page (I think). THis last part you guys should test out for me (the download button).

If you guys give we liscense to work with the arrangement I might be able to help the competition thing. I'm going by gut feeling 9instinct), and I could be wrong. I'm just adding ideas that could help the overall production.

If you dont aree with something I'm saying, it's cool. We go with leo's decisions on all of this. It's his baby. Just trying to help. I do think the flute gives it a good feel. Just need to find the right sounds.

Leo here is the latest mix I posted. AC used an older mix. I worked on the bass a bit too:

You should write a 2nd verse instead of repeating the 1st. The chorus is fine as is the first verse. It'll complete the package if you write a 2nd verse.

If you want to do that but have trouble, you could maybe ask Phil to write a 2nd verse for you. He's very good, and it wouldn't hurt to have co-writer on the lyrics...

I can tell you how to contact him if you need it. he does very good work. He wrote the lyrics on "From the Other Side", that you auditioned for.

I think it'd help this to not repeat the first verse...

Is not hard to develop another verse for this song, the lyric formula is simple using simple words... all opened to receive a co-writer, and I know some other Phil songs...definitively great!
I´ll post some ideas for a 2nd verse too.
The download button turns easy de access to last mix...and the embeded player to...good idea!
