I’m still stuck on the ground with my ‘47 Chief. It needs a spacer for my backplate and spinner. I’m attaching the drawing and specs from Bill Pancake. Neither I nor my mechanic have the skills to make the part, but I am hoping someone in this group does.

I’ll ask again if anyone have a spacer I can buy or whether someone with the right skills and tools is willing and able to make and sell me the part?

I’m not sure I trust just any ordinary machinist to make a part that attaches one of an Aeronca’s “mission critical” parts (NASA term for something with no back-up), namely the propeller.

Or, can someone give me the contact information of a reputable shop that can produce the spacer I need – preferably on the West Coast (since I’m in California)?

Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

My neighbor, Sam Tilleman, owns Saber Mfg. He builds prop extensions and crush plates.

If he has the right aluminum it’s just a little time on the lathe, measuring and drilling holes.   Call around and see.  Tell them it’s for your tractor <g>.

Or to put it another way, the part is held in compression between spinner backplate and flange.  It doesn’t rotate and while it’s spinning, the actual loads on it are distributed on a flat surface and the holes.  It seems to me to be one of the lesser torqued items up front.  More concerned with actual bolts and their torque.

Joe,

I believe that I have a shop that can do this for you but its located in Phoenix across the street from Deer Valley Airport.

Let me call them later today and make sure, then will pass the info along to you.

thanks,

Joe,

Send the plan to Send, Cut, Send. They’re on the web. They’ll make it and send it directly to you. It is an owner produced part, so it’s legal.

Duane,

I have a guy/shop here in Phoenix that can duplicate this part. I replied to Joe F earlier on but have not heard back from him.
