Seems to me that the local EAA chapters is where the tradition endures. Our chapter has has had a building or restoration project underway and another in planning for as long as I've been
Involved. There are fly-outs almost other month. We visited the Tampa tower a few years back when security was so tight that non-controllers rarely got in. Our guest speakers are usually excellent. I'm not sure how much longer this can last but it sure is nice now. The message below arrived among the (valid) critical posts about the national priorities and magazine. I am forwarding as an example of what is right about the EAA.

PS We have a Chapter member who learned to fly at here on the Clearwater field and went on to become a NASA shuttle pilot. SHE is an example of a Young Eagles rider who progressed fairly far in aviation. Somewhere I have a picture I took of her at a combined meeting with our chapter and the local 99's.  In it she is surrounded women of all ages talking hangar talk.

Subject: EAA ALL FLORIDA CHAPTER FLY-IN

Hello 282!
We are planning our first official Chapter 282 Fly-Out for 2013... and I think it will be a very fun one!
Please see details below from EAA Chapter 66 in Ft. Myers.

If you are able to attend, please contact me to let me know how many people will be in your plane or car.  (Please do not click "Reply All".)  I will then contact Chapter 66 with our estimated # of attendees.

We will mention this at the Jan 7th meeting and will have a sign-up sheet there as well.  I hope to see you all on the 7th; I think you'll enjoy our guest speaker, John "Lites" Leenhouts, Sun 'n Fun President!

Thanks,
Linda Kaufman
