aeronca.co.uk: No data plate
Hi Pete
I've had to stop any further plans re importing the de-registered Aeronca Champ that even now sits in Mullingar, Ireland, packed appropriately in a container that I bought so that it could be removed from the former owner's garage! Just too many complications for me as a non-resident here in South Africa, plus no data plate, plus the vintage, and now the funds that I had to do all this with have been used (squandered, some might say) on repairing the house we bought here in Hoedspruit, South Africa.
So, I need to sell it on <turns aside, vomits>. I bought it for Euros
4,500 and would be happy to take that for it, and chuck in the container as well (value about Euros 1,400).
Can you suggest a way to bring it the attention of possible interested parties in the UK? I have an SAA 747 captain interested, but he wants it delivered to Heathrow and I literally don't want to spend another bean on it (I also paid Euros 1,000+ to have it containerised). I have a few low-res images from the seller, and John Austin-Williams sourced the following info via an Air-Britain member:
"Built in 1946 and registered N1119E, it was registered as EI-ATL on 22 Sep 1969 to Paul Von Lonkhuyzen; registered to Kildare Flying Club on 6 May 1970. Both owners based at Weston. On 26 Nov 1975 it suffered an engine failure on take-off at Weston and forced landed in a field near Celbridge, Co Kildare. Dismantled, it was later taken to Abbeyshrule for rebuild by Bruton Air Engineering. Entry "destroyed noted on register in Jun. 1978 but crossed out again on 7 Dec. 1978. Noted dismantled at Abbeyshrule on 21 Jul. 1986. Air Britain UK & Ireland Register 2007 states that it was used as spares for the rebuild of EI-AVB. EI-ATL deregistered on 14 Jun 2011 as "Removed from Service".
The timber and frame are allegedly in good shape, and the wings were re-covered a few years ago but not doped, and it's been in dry storage for some years. here's the original ad (which I am aware doesn't display the former EI-ATL to best effect):

Many thanks indeed Pete, I look forward to hearing from you (probably my last shot!).

It was imported from the USA in 1969, has extensive documentation since the beginning of time, but it appears the original data plate is missing, and has been for decades. I'll be rebuilding and (hopefully) getting a non-type certification. Can you advise me what the ramifications of no original data plate might be?
