Back seat flying in a Champ.

You guys better hope the FAA and your insurance does not find you in the rear seat, when the plane has an accident, there is a very good reason that the solo from the front seat placard is there in the first place. If you have a mishap or have any other problems while flying it from the rear seat, and you bend up your Champ, your insurance will be canceled, because you did not fly the plane from the front seat in the first place, as the stc stated in the paperwork, as well as the paperwork from the manufacture of the Champ states.

Date: Tuesday, April 2, 2013, 7:13 AM I?m glad you brought this up. I followed the placard and always flew my T from the back. And liked it. But I intend to use Buzz Wagner?s C85 STC for the restoration and that specifies soloing from the front seat. I am uneasy with that, uneasy to the point that I will make sure that all controls are within reach of the back seat. ? Why does changing the engine make it desirable, or even safe, to change solo positions?

This is the placard for the:

( Models 7AC and S7AC)

"Maximum baggage - 40 lb. solo front, 20 lb. solo rear."

No problem to solo rear seat as long as you adhere.

“there is a very good reason that the solo from the front seat placard is there in the first place…”

Guys (and gals) let’s not go off the deep end here, OK?  My sole point of starting the thread was to ask what, exactly, IS “The Very Good Reason The Solo From The Front Placard Is There In The First Place…”

Sorry, but ever since I returned from Viet Nam, I’ve never considered ‘Because I said so’ a good answer…

Blue Skies,

Corradi
