Dick,

A small world indeed.  We probably saw each other at one time out there. In '59 my dad had a C3 out at Compton tied down at the east end.   I could look over and see Compton Air College with their fleet of J3s.  My first actual flying lesson was with Mr. Al Blake at Compton in his Porterfield.  My dad then moved his C3 over to Torrance where we tied down, later getting a hanger at Collins and Dietrich Air Services there.  I then soloed in the C3 and then begin flying with Collins and Dietrich in their Champs and Tri Champs until I finally got my private with them.  I still flew into Compton frequently during that time.   Later, in the early 70s I owned a Champ that I kept at Compton while I was a controller at Long Beach.  Wow...small world.

Hi Roger.

I learned at Compton Airport.  I learned with the 47 Flying Club.  We had two Champs at the time.  I've been following their Airworthiness Certificates for years.  N84276 was last operating in Ohio and N1260E has been out of license for thirty years.  It was located last in Salinas, CA and I think I finally traced the last owner down.  I'm hoping I can eventually find and restore it.
