I have been told that my tail wires are too loose, what is the procedure for setting the tension on the four tail wires if they are too loose? Aircraft Tool Supply has a flying wire tension meter that works with a special torque wrench for $500 and has a range from 200 to 2400 pounds. I think the champ tail wire spec is around 300 pounds tension, but I am not able to find it in my L16 maintenance manual. Any information would be helpful. My IA wants to see the spec before he does any work on the tail wires. Can I use a control wire tension meter on my tail wires?

Sam,
a tension to a B flat is correct.  Not sure if you can convince your A&P tho'.

How do you measure B flat? I see that B flat is 466 hz, do you use a violin tuner pickup and an oscilloscope and look for the correct waveform period?

There's an app for that.

The recording is what's on my Chief. Some have it higher pitched. We decided not to prestress the old fittings too much. The stab has no wiggle when you try to move it which is a good thing! It's held up just fine for twenty years.

And there is a different torque wrench for the tail brace wires and compression wires or was it the cables? I remember a discussion in the old saved emails in 2014 on this subject

No, you strum a B flat on the instrument of your choice, then strum your tailwire.  If the tailwires pitch is higher, they're too tight.

I believe you are refering to the B flat below middle C?
