There are two types of linseed oil- boiled and raw. Boiled will react
with air and form a hardish polymer over a short period of time and is
great for preserving wood. As it reacts, it generates heat and thus the
advise to burn or get rid of your rags in a safe way and not leave them
near you airplane :-) .

Raw will take years to harden and will protect iron from rusting for
that time. Thus use raw only. I used it inside my tubing of my 7ac by
drilling a very small hole and using a hypodermic needle to inject the
raw linseed oil years ago.
