For 11 series Chief owners.

This STC is not about added speed, however it does cruise a little faster.  It is about climb performance. Bill Pancake built me
up a Continental Super C-85-12-F Stroker engine. This setup used the 0-200 crankshaft. See attach above.

     Super C-85 – 200 - 7.0:1 – 85 - 2575 on dyno established 97.5 HP @2575 RPM, 115 HP @ 2750 RPM

I can tell you this, to make a full 65 H.P. the engine has to be turning 2300 RPM. With my standard propeller
it just could not reach that  RPM on the climb out. So on the climb out I wasn’t achieving 65 full H.P.  This new Bill Pancake
engine will turn in excess of 2400 R.P.M. on take off.  This means I am pulling right around 90 H.P. on takeoff. That is a
big difference in climb performance!  Click on the attach above for details on this STC.

On dyno established 97.5 HP @2575 RPM - 115 HP @ 2750 RPM

I have the same basic engine in my Champ and yes it jumps off ground and goes like He--.It has new different crank,  cylinders,  and prop. There is an STC for it. When I sell my Champ somebody is going to get a short field zoomer. We used the Aircraft Specialities STC. And it wasn't a necessarly cheap conversion but pilots don't talk about that around their wife. As you grow older you do--but then when you get real old everyone thinks you are feeble and you  don't talk about those things because they think you exaggerate .  Doug

And if you buy something expensive or that looks expensive it, have it shipped to  friends house (whos wife doesnt know yours)  instead of your house and then take it to the hangar directly from his house. Oh and to cover your financial tracks, have a single friend do the purchase for you and pay him in cash.  My dad used this for years and didnt get busted....yet

Some years back I restored an Ercoupe that was trailered to me from Washington State. (I got my Champ for the labor) The engine was shot and I did the O-200 crank modification on a field OH.

The owner picked it up in August and with lollygaging around it was well over 100 when he departed. I had only been able to put 5 hours on it at the time so the engine was still tight.

Here he is with two people, full fuel, pilot bags, etc about 1000 feet down out runway on a hot Arizona August day with no wind to help.

NO NO NO

You say Dear I need XXXX Thousand dollars for a new engine. She says I have set aside XXXX dollars from my household fund knowing that airplanes are expensive.

Now you sit down and make yourself comfortable and I'll bring you a drink.
