I resigned from EAA this past year over ther way they handled the Patty Wagstaff event.  Although they assured me, in a written message , that of course their private security service  had to turn her in to the Sherrif's Dept., I totally disagreed.  I exercised my progative to resign from such a silly organization, as I saw it.  Their response.   EAA warbird security's task is to protect the rare aircraft

I think their statement "regardless of the people involved" is idiotic.  There's a huge difference between an uninvited stranger wandering the airport and an invited and well known guest who had just minutes before left the EAA's own function.  I guess they would have turned in Charles Lindberg also.  Ok...I'm through.

I've been to both Oshkosh and trade shows and never once at any of the trade shows I've attended have I camped under the wing of my airplane for 8 days and spent every one of those 8 days surrounded by friends who love airplanes the way I do.

Even though I am extremely disappointed to read of the series of Board Members resigning.....  I am hoping they get this all fixed before Oshkosh 2010.  I have not missed a single Oshkosh since 1980.  It really is what you make it for yourself.  There is a little bit of something for everybody their.....  I personally spend all of my time in the Antique, Classic and Contemporary area........  The airplanes are AWESOME.....  but it's really the people that make it all worth while.....  Let's hope they can get back on track and preserve Oshkosh as the amazing place it is........  Planning on Oshkosh 2010 !!

I sincerely doubt that you will find as many helpful volunteers in Paris, nor a donation run Emergency Aircraft Repair.  Then again there aren't many ordinary citizens flying their planes the either to place them on display.

I’ve never been to Oshkosh, but it’s still a dream to attend some day.

We’ve had some troubles in our local EAA chapter also, but are still getting along.  I think our love of aviation and strong tendency to swarm together is  going to see us through any problems with management disputes.

Even though a smaller percentage of EAA members are involved with traditional rag and tube or wood homebuilts and antique/classic, I’m curious how the actual number of those types flying today compares with the numbers in the early days of EAA.

It seems to be a paradox of success in many endeavors that things can grow into something larger than their originators are comfortable with.  I see it all the time up here.  Those who have worked so hard to develop the State sometimes, unfortunately, expend a lot of energy complaining about all the different types of newcomers the fruits of their labors have attracted up here.  Sometimes, the best thing for pioneers to do is let go and go start something new….Louis

My Oshkosh means camping way down in Vintage Camping among cool planes and great people.
Wander up to the show to see something every day, cruise around and return with a cold frosty beer. Not a bad way to spend a week.

Very interesting observation Louis......  I hope you can some day visit Oshkosh.....  it really is an amazing gathering of Airplanes & People from all over the world.  The Antique & Classic & Contemporary Division is the largest of all the divisions.  You will see more CLASSIC Aircraft in one place at Oshkosh than in any other place in the world......  People make it happen.......  and hopefully people will not foul it up !!!!!

Please correct me if I am wrong on this one, but don't they charge for the Gathering of Eagles dinner?  If so, then are they not charging people to have dinner with Patty Wagstaff and others?  I am not saying that she should have been there, but to have an organization the size and scope of EAA have this happen to one of their premier performers and  not be able to take care of this without incident is beyond imagination.

EAA does alot of good things for us, top of the list are the lobbyists in Washington.  But between this and the board members resigning in protest, they had better realize that they have a big problem on their hands.  I will probably keep my membership, but I am steadily loose faith in their abilities to stay a top tier group.

EAA makes ALOT of money charging you to camp under your airplane that you paid to bring in, then charging people to come look on your airplane.  The family atmosphere present on a member to member basis is what keeps people coming back.  I hope they come through this spot stronger than before, because we all need them.

I changed the title to discuss something about her arrest.

Don't forget, we, as a society, have gone bonkers in my mind about everything to do with anything associated with alcohol consumption.

Patty's conduct at OSH, was, as I recall associated with her maybe being a bit "toasty" that evening.

But, it was overblown into a big deal because of that.  Just like the good old days have passed when we realized that he (only "he" then) who led the charge to the bar at the O Club didn't necessarily drink and fly.  Now, we have to report any "motor vehicle action" to the FAA.

Personally, I've known a whole bunch of guys who may drive after one or two too many, but I have yet to see one of them even go by the airport, let alone get into an airplane.

But, as I said, today we've just become paranoid about any conduct tied to drinking, that Patty fell victim to this insanity.
