I've got about 50 airplane pics over on Photobucket.  They were planes my dad or myself owned.   Included are a bunch of C3 pics.  I think I've post a few before.  None of the pics are organized.  If interested in the C3s, just cycle through all of them.  Should be 3 pages of Photobucket...if I did it correctly.  roger

Hey Rafael.  The gyro pics are the same gyro, just different enclosures my dad made for them.  I flew it quite a bit when I was working at ZLA and living in Lancaster.  We would go out on the dry lake bed to fly, although we flew sometimes of WJF.   My first flight was an accidental lift off.  I was doing high speed taxiing, getting use to how things felt, when suddenly I was flying.  Fortunately, it was nothing but miles of flat dry lake ahead of me.  Once airborne, I thought to myself that I'd better become a gyro pilot quickly.  I did return it safely.  Ken Brock, the king of gyrocopters was a good friend of my dad.  Ken had given me some dual in his two place glider model that his wife towed behind the car.    roger

The first person I saw killed in an airplane was a Benson Autogyro.  He had it tethered to a post with about 200' of rope. Teaching himself to fly using the wind, got the nose too far over and went in from about 50' nose first, no seat belt, etc, etc, adios!

Between the weekend dirt bike riders and the lake bed gyrocopter pilots, the Lancaster hospital and morgue were busy places on a typical weekend in the late '60s/early '70s.  Lots of serious accidents and some fatalities.  The problem with the gyrocopter folks was that most were not even real aviators before trying gyros.  And being an aviator first still didn't mean you wouldn't get into trouble.  They were easy and fun to fly but had several dangerous areas into which you could get yourself if not warned before hand by someone experienced.  Fortunately, I had Ken Brock and my dad available to give me pre solo advice in those areas (and my first flight was still unintentional).   And another thing was the fact that many were strictly home built and home designed...or modified considerably from the Benson design.  And the workmanship and construction was horrible on some.   roger

Hey Mark.   Yea..the Mite was great little plane.  With an A65, it cruised about 120 mph.  However, as you implied, it is a bit snug when sitting in it.  I occasionally see one listed on Barnstormers and think about it.  My dad sold that one to a good friend of his at Torrance.  The friend kept it for many years, until he died.   His widow donated it to an air museum in Nebraska where it resides today.   When my dad died, I found the Mite's maintenance manual in his house and sent it to the museum.  roger
