Concerning push rod length, they come in a variety of different lengths. I do not recall if they are marked on the rod or just on the box or package that they come in. As I recall there are + and - lengths available. We did not actually measure the overall length of the rods. As I recall on the circular ends on the rods, some have a small flat ground and others do not, so I’m not sure if it is even practical to measure them without a fixture or jig.

The last time I helped install new pushrods, I made a wooden stick that would hook under the rocker arm pin and could be used to push down on the  push rod until all the oil was pushed out of the lifter. The rocker arm was then installed and a feeler gauge was used to check the clearance between the rocker arm and the valve.
We used a small 4 inch disk sander that I have with a fixed table to surface the rocker arms. My memory is poor but I do recall that it takes quite a bit of sanding on  the rocker arm with fine grit paper to result in  just a few thousands change.

The pushrods from Continental Motors Inc are stamped 537870P030 right on the pushrod. I suppose the P030 represents PLUS 0.030".  Curiosity has clamped onto the "gotta know" lobe of my brain. Now, I will leave the comfortable air conditioned house and tall glass of cold lemonade to go to my shop to see if the original pushrods were stamped.

As the 100F + degrees shop that has been closed all day absorbing heat causes sweat to run into my eyes, I will blame John for mentioning the possibility of the pushrods being stamped.  I'll reply later whether the original rods were stamped.

Harvey, who now hopes the original pushrods were not stamped -0.030.
