When mounting a McCauley metal prop on a taper shaft or on a flange shaft, any difference in mounting bolts or adapters, etc.  I haven't had a taper since my last Scarecoupe and can't remember.  Can I take the prop off my A65 flange crank  and just bolt it on a taper crank?    roger

The bolts are different and a taper shaft adapter is necessary. I'll try to dig up a PDF data sheet.

Thanks Cy.  Once the taper flange is in place on the taper crank, then all is the same.

I have a 1959 McCauley data sheet with instructions for installing a metal prop on a taper shaft. I'll scan it if requested.

Negatory Roger. The prop hub adapter for the taper shaft has its own bolts which require castelated nuts and cotter pins as memory serves

Richard in OH who hopes it didn't fail me again

I'll be at the airport tomorrow. I'll just look at one.  Gonna pull the accessory case off.  Hope I find oil pump gear flopping around and digging into its housing. Called the guy with the a65.  He said he also has several spare accessory cases.  It's all looking better.

You will need 6 bushings to go in the prop bolt holes. Sensenich and McCauley bushings are different. AC Spruce has both. You will also need a spacer between the prop and hub if the plane is a Chief; don't know about a Champ. (for clearance between the prop and cowling -- the taper crank is shorter than the flange crank.

I just took 5 accessory cases to the Starman Spring Consignment Sale in Yukon Oklahoma as well as an A65 without the cylinders, but is had its accessory case and oil pump gears still intact,

Richard in OH wishing I had that back now.

Wow...Yukon.  My old stomping grounds.  I was an FAA ATC Instructor at the FAA Academy in OKC for four years.  Had my '39 Chief tied down at Cimarron Field in Yukon then.  El Reno Aviation was...well...out at El Reno.  They had lots of O-145 parts still which I had in the Chief.  My Chief had some really old rotten cracked sidewall tires on it.  One day a guy walked up, looked, said those tires are horrible.  Go over behind that hanger and there are a stack of used tires same size off our turbo Commander nose gear.  Good tires, just some flat spots that cause vibration at high speed.  Help yourself.  I did.  Don't know what ply, but the sidewalls were so heavy duty I didn't really need air in them that '39 Chief.  roger
