Yesterday's auction in Gunthersville, Alabama, saw David Ferguson of Ferguson Flying Circus Airport (TN09) purchase 7AC-1749 N83092 for $19,500 + $195 buyers premium. <link to video>. Here David is pictured with Scott Moore of Starman Brothers Auctions <pic>

The 'Cub' which sold just before this Champ brought $35,000 + $350 from an online proxy bidder.

It’s always amazed me what people will pay for a Cub.

I’ve seen it a Guntersville and Moontown.  Appeared to be a nice airplane.  It did have a loose/wavy section of fabric on the fuselage that made me wonder...

Amen...and I am perfectly happy with that.....I believe my Champ to be objectively a better plane and far more affordable!

Roger,

Looks like a  low time a65 went fairly cheap at that auction.

Darn!   I did do an early run down to Winchester breakfast yesterday morning.  But the forecast for a few hours later was too threatening to try to make Guntersville.   Darn....again.   roger

I was going to buy one of those A65s for Roger's possible use, but they were in pretty rough shape and went for more than twice what I valued them at.

Richard in OH has better projects at home and I know what they need

I'm curious, what did they bring?

Richard in Creswell, getting a nose bowl and spinner painted this weekend

Well i thought it would give you a lesser expensive option if you find more metal than you like.

Richard in OH who had a pinion making metal once on a C-85

I'm going to put another hour on it tomorrow and then pull the screen.......and this time carefully collect the metal for a closer eval.  Then I've got about a 3 or 4 week project coming up that will keep me slightly occupied.  After that......       roger

It amazes me how low Champs sell for, for example, the auction plane had newer fabric, good cosmetics, hydraulic brakes, for $19,500. What a deal. Cubs seem to reflect the true value of restoration

Thanks,

Jeff

I did seven Aeronca restorations.  Three pre war, and four Champs.  Best I return I ever got was to get back about half of what I had spent, not counting my labor (and I do good work in my humble opinion)!  ;-)

Dang I didn't talk to too many people and didn't look once the auction started. I spent some time with a young man from York, PA who flew DC-4s hauling fuel, a lady who sold aviation insurance and her husband who flew corporate and they purchase two 670 radial engines to make into coffee tables, and Dave Ferguson who bought the Champ. Of course there were 6 or 7 regulars that go to all these auctions who I spoke to as well.

If he hat a hat on I doubt I would have spotted him.

Richard--from what you say my Champ should bring atleast $45000 +  {:>) with --O-200 cylinders, O-200 insides and starter-all with STC. CUB's are history (I have had three) for those that did not grow up with these airplanes--Champs are still airplanes to haul two people faster and more comfortable).  Must be a new group of buyers--the most I ever got out of a Cub for sale was$ 18000 and the cheapest I bought was $3500  not many moons ago.  Just my rusty 2 cents. Must be the new generation speculating. Got rid of Cubs because I got tired of looking at the back side of a newbie that could not see out of the  back seat--they only see my back side...and complained that what I told them to see was already gone out of sit if I could see it.. All in all I had a good time and helped others--but those days are now history. It is Mint Juiipet time as the sun sinks in the West..With new rules maybe I'll buy a Cessna 180.--could get to the convention quick.   Doug.
