[f-AA] Chasing down the Interstate confusion

Tho' my normal state is "confused", I was able to sort thru the Interstate is LSA, or not, issue.  The answer is that those airplanes under TCDS 737 (S1A) have a gross wt of either 1200, or 1250 lbs, depending on some STCs, and thus qualifies as LSA.  The L6, under TCDS 754, has a gross wt of 1650 lbs, and thus does not fit under the LSA regs.

Put your Interstate Cadet in L-6 clothing and I think you have solved the problem.

that only works for the uninitiated!!  ;-)  You need to spend a few minutes around the folks that bleed this military stuff.  You would probably be picketed for trying to pass off a Cadet as an L6!! 
 
ZPH is a base with a lot of military history, and a military museum, and regular camp outs and reenactments.  I get questioned on a regular basis about the white circle on my "star", (I have the drawing to back it up) and my lack of gray paint on the underside of the airplane, (I have the TO to back it up).  An interesting group to say the least!

When I was living in Florida I missed the opportunity to land at ZPH. It was on the school's approved list and I've flown over it many times but never stopped there. I wanted to but it just never seemed to fit in to the training plan. I did land many times in North Florida at the only grass strip that was on the approved list so that my students could experience that. The name escapes me at the moment but we had to do a dog leg pattern to avoid flying over a building that had something to do with Jacksonville ARTCC.
 
I am well acquainted with military authentication nit-pickers and I confess to falling into the perfect authentication occasionally myself. Civilian is one thing but it seems that the military changed markings like some people change their underwear. An olive drab (as long as it is exactly the right shade for that month) Cadet might look nice.

Tom I gave up on talking to ex military airplanes and their drivers years ago at Oshkosh when I was judging antiques.  John Turgan and I were judging and drove down the  war bird haven.  Some young guy that was wet behind the ears told us we were not welcome. We told him to go tell his father and left to never go back. He was all dressed up in a flight suit adorned with squadron patches, it was 90 degrees and we swear we saw sweat running out the bottom over his shoes. We could shoot authenticity down but it was a waste of time. Unfortunately egos have replaced authenticity in many places. Have an old say--Don't BS the BSer."

We used to fly the C47 in jeans, t shirts ,ball caps , and leather jackets, we wear the green bag now but please come talk to us, we are just freight dogs having fun, flying the masterpiece .

Wish I was there this year--My last DC-3 flying was the Delta passenger DC-3's and Cargo C-47's (2) and then the C-46 (5). Wanted to fly and instruct of the L-100 (C-130) but they wouldn't let me off the DC-9 program and flying the DC-6 for new Flight Engineer training. That was fun tho--2 F/E students and an F/E instructor--basically a solo operation--always made sure had altitude when they did the single tank cross feed drill to keep all four  turning. Did all this with a mixed wardrobe also.

May I correctly assume that an S1A is not an L6? And, an L6 should not be called an Interstate Cadet?
