Hi Travis, Buzz here. I've only lived in the Midwest a year and a
half... Aeronca-less... where might that Pumpkin drop be held?
There was one at Daniels Field down by Eugene OR.
g'day

For those Midwest folks, you know who you are, The 15th annual Pumpkin drop is
going to be held on 6 November, 2010. Pumpkin dropping has become popular across
the U.S. but this is the original, the oldest pumpkin drop in the country. I
have advanced intellegence that the target this year will be a Ford F-150. This
is a very well attended event and the post-mission debreifing as usual includes
a bonfire victory celebration and a post post debreifing which includes a wide
veriety of a large amount of delicious beverages. Departure is late morning on 7
November. Mess is cornicopic and excellent!?R.O.N. facilities are most
comfortable.

Mike,

The Pumpkin Drop is held at Blakesburg, Iowa ( IA27 ). That is about 13 miles WSW of Ottumwa ( OTM ). RON accomodations are available.

This pumkin dropping sounds fun, we just don't seem to do this up here in Canada, I asume a regulation issue. Is it  OK reg wise down there or does it just happen ??

Many years ago we would do flour sack drops out of Aeroncas, Tri Champs, etc on to the dry lake beds north of Los Angeles. The safest spot to stand was on the target. Cutting up toilet paper was fun too. Roger

It's legal as long as you don't make any person on the ground the target.

It's perfectly okay in the states. You can drop a 62 Buick if you want as long as precautions are taken not to damage persons or property. The target being the exception to this. Our precautions are pretty extensive and only eclipsed by our fun! FAR 91.13 covers this.

Travis,
no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the Buick into my Champ.  Maybe Cheeves are bigger?

Tom,
Don't be silly. You can't fit a Buick in a Chief cockpit. It has to be slung under the wing. Oh, sorry, can't a Champ do this?

Sounds like that would make an interesting Mythbusters episode :-)

I'm still waiting for those guys to call me. I could really help them
tear something up.
