Guys,
This happened last week at Chandler Airport in the Phoenix area. The hangar with the door
blown in belongs to a friend of mine who owns Chandler Air Service.
The various Piper Cherokee's blown around were for the most part owned by TransPac flight
school, with offices at both Chandler and Deer Valley.
A storm blew into the valley and the called all the students back to land. Many of them could
not get back to Deer Valley before the storm hit and they diverted to Chandler. They all made
it there safely but once down they realized that they had no additional tie-downs at the airport
so the planes were simply parked. This was approx 18:00...
At about 22:00 another storm front came through with winds up to 60 mph. Anything not tied
down was blown everywhere and there are reports of a possible "micro-burst" hitting
Chandler Airport.
