I'm sure most of you are aware of this site.  I find if really interesting because of my having been involved in aviation since the late '50s.  I especially like the Calif airports, since I flew all around there until '76.

I was looking at this the other day.  The site owner has added so much recently.  It is indeed an excellent endeavor on his and his family's part.  I sent him a small contribution via PayPal.  He responded within hours expressing his appreciation and saying that contributions have been slim lately, and costs continue to increase.  Anyhow, if you like this and get an urge to send a small contribution, he would appreciate it.   Nope......no stock or ownership in this either.   roger

Roger--

Good post I have tried to tell him othe airport I flew off in Holly,,
Michigan in the 1950's that is now a subdivision. A school on one end
and resturant bar on the other end next to a Sunoco gas station that
had the good auto gas for an Old Aeronca. But couldn't make his
contact with all this new amazing electronic gear and my slide rule
wouldn't work-- would donate but don't use the computer (an old
proverb) Still write checks with pen and ink (hard to find bottle ink
and Schaffer pen points) and have credit card shredder. Our country
needs to move back about 60 years and enjoy it rather than try to
destroy it. Todays colleges with all ther old Viet Nam objector
proffessors and their anti America indoctrination need to get a read
job and not mind bend these millenillas, When they are gone their
students will finally find out what they where leading them to. Too
bad they can't see the getting old panaromic view of what American was
like and could have been the plan for the world--but greed beat
sense--since those greed mongers will enjoy their gain and leave the
trash to the next generation to pick up It has been going on since the
VietNam War and our current president (Small p). Doug

PS. I just wish the current population had lived thru the Great
Depression and WWII--they would have a different education and
appreciation of what their hardships and education results made
America Great--which the current population has no memory or
appreaciation. SAD And just think the majority just think Aeronca's
and old airplanes are just JUNK that interfer with airlines.

Interesting post indeed Roger. I found this buried under the Ohio airports.

The Cessna T-50 and this merry troupe were at the Koneta Airport in 1946.

The youngster (third from the left kneeling) went to get his license and attend Purdue University on a Navy scholarship.

Before he could graduate the Navy called him up to go to Pensacola, Florida, where they taught him to fly their way, and then sending him off into combat in Korea. After the war, he went back to Purdue and finished his undergraduate work getting a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He added a masters degree to his credentials before landing a job with NACA at the Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory, near Cleveland. He finish his career as a professor at the University of Cincinnati.

In between this young upstart, who soloed an Aeronca 7AC before he had his drivers license, got to fly an X-15, a two seat command module, and a lunar lander.

They used the Aeronca 7AC in 1946 to train students at the Koneta Airport and the one this lad flew is still hanging around town today in a museum named after him.

Richard in OH privileged to work as a docent when there aren't any simulators to repair.

My son is 25 and he has been taught the reverence and honor for the US. No question in my mind that he will grab the flag before it hits the ground.....I just don't know how many more will step up......

Amazing. Who would have guessed.   And T 50s were all over So.Cal airports in the '50s.  Guess most of them rotted away.  We do have an Oshkosh quality one at a nearby airport though.  Roger
