I was wondering if toe brakes were available from 11AC-1, or if they were introduced later, and if later, when? Anybody know?

Richard in Creswell, who likes Champ heel brakes just fine.

The original toe brake pedals are very difficult to find. If memory serves only the 11CC and the Sedan used them.  Wonder if the ACA pedals would work?

Toe brakes were an option on the 11BC and standard on the 11CC models. The same
pedals are also used from day one on the 15AC Sedan.

Finding them is a good question. Buzz Wagner used to have someone making replacement
pedals but they passed and the son (I called and checked) cannot find anyone else to do it
now.

If anyone on the list knows of someone who could do some aluminum casting, please let me
know.

I have done a bit of casting.  If I could secure an original to use as a pattern I might be willing to experiment.

I seem to remember that when Buzz had them cast, the ones he had were a little worn, so the casting
had a little wear in it too.   Or was that the Pushpak project in India?   At any rate, if you had a NOS set,
it would a great find to use for new castings.

Tried Burl a long time ago. He thought he had a source but they are no longer doing any
casting...

A friend of mine has a set of original 15AC pedals. Not sure if he has used them in a
upcoming restoration or not but will ask.

I have an 11BC that was converted to hydrolic toe brakes.  I like them a lot.  Almost all the planes I've flown had toe brakes so heel brakes feel unnatural the few times I've had to use them.  Here is the back page of the 337 that describes how the conversion was accomplished with part numbers ect.  Hope this helps, and if you need any of the other info I have pertaining to this I will be happy to send copies.  Jim Chuk  N 4038E  11BC-162

Did you have to get a Field Approval on this installation or is Buzz Wagner’s conversion an STC?

I read the 337 for the brake pedal installation with hyd.    Now....is there an STC for wheel/brakes to match?  I haven't seen a cleveland  conversion that is stc'd.    What wheel/ brake combination did you use on your Chief?

One who still has the cable operated disks wants to know.

Might ask him to do the job as he has contacts in the Philippines that do
such work.

Oh ye of little faith. As a matter of fact I have made friends with a young man from India whose family is so rich that they have a servant that does nothing but tend to the family dogs. Sumitro was a reporter for our local paper, (The same one that I still write for) and the family that I mentioned is his family. He has agreed to take on the Indian authorities either through force or bribery and get my Pushpaks out of durance vile and on their way to the United States/ So when they arrive I willl still have them to sell. However, I have kept a file of all the doubting Thomas's and they will not under any circumstances be sold to the people who have excoriated me with their snide remarks.

Hi all,  in response to the questions about weather there was an STS or not, I don't believe so.  I will post the 337 form I have for my plane, I have another 337 copy that is the same alteration on a Champ done in 1990 that I suppose was used as an example to show the FAA that it had been done before.  I'm kind of new at these certified planes, I was into experimentals for quite a while, and you can pretty much do what you want with them.  Lots, lots easier!.  This alteration was done in 1994, I just got the plane last fall, so all I know about this conversion is what's in the paperwork.  Anyway, hope this is of some help to you all.  Jim Chuk  11BC-162

Sorry guys, in my last post I said I didn't know if there was an STS for the toe brake change.  I should have said STC, not STS.  Must have been to early in the morning, or to late at night when I posted that message.  Jim Chuk
