My 600-6 tires and tubes came today. Removing the 700-6 tires made a great deal of difference in getting into the Champ. I can now reach the step much easier than before.

Now I need to figure out what pressure to use on hard surface. I was using 20# in the 700-6. Advice would be appreciated. Plus I can now carry an extra gallon of gas. J

Thanks

Paul

15 seems to work best for me. 20+ and it's really bouncy!

I dropped back to 600's also, and I like about 15 lbs in them, landing on pavement.

Paul,
I use 14#.  That makes about a 4" tire patch w/2 ply tires.  Easily checked visually.

I've been around this one too.  Gathered advice from AERONCA people who favored the 12-18 psi area.  Settled on 15 for my Chief and think it's great for hard surface runways.

Totally agree with the others. Not more than 15 psi....

14-15 is about right if you can read it that close. The 20psi you had in the 700-6 is why you had a hard time getting in.. I have 700-6 on my Champ and use 15 psi no problem.  Doug

Me too.  And you really don't need a guage after a while, you can tell by the bulge when it's just right.

Harvey, who also has some bulge.

Reminds me of flying back from Middletown way back in '98, and unaware of proper pressure, put 30# in somewhere along the way.
Bounced like a superball every landing until I got down to CA, where I was informed I had twice as much air as was proper.
Now only bounce like a superball every once in a while.  :)

I normally use about 16 poundels but, being a glutton for punishment , will put 20 or more in for practice on the pavement.  Good practice but ugly landings.  I go back to grass and 16 shortly thereafter<G>
