The frames on my chief's sliding windows are in a bad state of repair. I'd love to hear how others have been dealing with the issue of these frames being fragile, worn out, expensive to replace, and somewhat dissatisfying. Note that my airplane is very work-a-day - not original in the details, so going away from the original window frame design isn't a huge deal for me.

At this point, I have just removed the windows entirely, which is actually pretty nice for unobstructed camera work, but can be chilly in the rare event that I climb over 3000 feet (living the coddled life here in southern California).

How are you dealing with your windows? Do you use metal frames? Do you do anything to make it easy to pull the window open and closed?

The parts from Univair work great.  I just redid the windows on my L-16.

I looked in Univair but did not see window frames for early Aeroncas. What are the Univair part numbers?

For the 11AC sliders:

The vertical middle pieces for the 7AC might work by Univair, just might, be able to be modified.

The wrap around upper, lower and side pieces are more difficult.  I found in the factory drawings that they started
with three pieces of channel that were put together.  The later production had a single piece that was bent around
the corners.  If you had the factory way to bend channel, it would be easy.  Not so much at home.

I've seen just bare overlapping plexiglass with a handle on the glass.

That's all I know.

and the velco fuzzy makes the window have just enough sticky to open and also close.

In the pre-wars it’s a metal frame in front and the back vertically only.
The tricky part is putting felt so both pieces don’t rub against each other and scratch themselves

For the post-war Champ, the window stiffener parts are #2417-1, 2418-1 & 2418-2.  Sorry but I missed that you had a pre-war Chief before replying.  You might call Univair to see if they have the Chief stiffeners.

I redid my windows on the right side a while back and I saw the vertical piece and it is different than the Chief one, but I thought at the time, it would be better than nothing and perhaps could be adapted.

Thanks for the ideas. Univair doesn't show the 11AC parts.

I'll be fabricating something... just not sure what yet.
