For sale, a 1942 Aeronca Defender TAC-65.
This aircraft was completely rebuilt from the frame up by my dad (with occasional help from family and friends) and was pronounced airworthy on 6 Feb 2004. This was at TT 1079.69.
I have records back to 1965. The engine, a Continental C 85, was completely rebuilt on 2 Jan 1998, and was preserved for long term storage at that time. It was installed on 3 Sep 2003. At that time, a new prop was also installed. The last engine inspection and annual was 20 Oct 2016. At that time Tach was 66.6 and TT was 1162.2. When not in the air, the Aeronca has spent her life in the hanger.
I do have a ton of documentation on the aircraft itself, charts, manuals, blueprints, microfiche, pictures during the rebuild, and both the aircraft and engine logs as well.
It was a passion project for my father, a 24 year Air Force pilot and veteran. He invested a little over $45,000 in the aircraft during the complete rebuild. I would like to recover as much of that as I can for my mother. I’ve been told it’s probably worth close to $50,000, but does need an annual, and potentially some light maintenance since it’s been sitting for over a year collecting dust.
The hanger is also available, as once the plane is sold, we will no longer need it. It can be leased at RAP, or can be dismantled and rebuilt just about anywhere. It is a Port-a-Port Executive II, large enough to easily hold the Aeronca, as well a couple of workbenches and some additional and some additional storage.
I know my dad would like this plane to get back in the air where she belongs. Any reasonable offer will considered.
Keep ‘em flying.
