My champ has some 90 degree adapters on the plugs that work great! I have not been able to find a seller/manufacturer though. These screw into the top of the plug, turn 90 deg. and the wire screws into them.

Don't know about #1 but the answer to # 2 is yes--a REM 37BY short.  Only need it on #4  (or is it 2)

Subject: [f-AA] Two Questions

1. Is there a source for the blisters that go on the engine cowl to make clearance for the front plugs?

2. Is there a substitute plug for the REM40E that is shorter and will give additional clearance for the engine cowl?

I have the shorter plugs but still have a clearance problem, not sure
if it is due to the fiberglass nose bowl or not

FWIW, I am using the 37BYs and still have more contact than I like, so may go with the blisters or right angle fittings later. I realize this is an old original post, but I had just explored the same issue a month ago, and got good advice from the list.

There some older UREM37BY's out there that are the same length as REM40's.  Unison changed lengths some ten years ago, but I can't recall exactly when.  I prefer Champions so do not use Unison plugs. Hope this does not start a Champion V. Unison war!

Was going through some plugs the other day and noticed that some of them were
shorter. Believe that like PS says that the Unisom versions were just a tad shorter.
Agreed and I am not a fan of anything other than Champions but will throw in a
Unisom in one cylinder if its needed for clearance.

I had Unisons since they made the shorter plugs, and never had a lick of trouble with them.  Why the preference for Champion spark plugs?  It can't be because of the name, eh, Joe?  :)

If one uses the old Champion CH108 harness with the REM36BY plug you will gain about 3/8" of cowl clearence.  When Champion bought out Slick the numbering system was changed, so I have not researched the new system.  May be M2007.

As a complete aside, I have the feeling that now that Champion owns Slick, the Bendix mags will slowly disappear from the industry, will no longer be supported by the parts division of Champ/Slick and will go the way of Eismann and Case into the museum shelves. I have a few rebuild kits on the shelf, but these are already up to about $300 each as compared to the preSlick prices of about $180.  They would rather  you buy new Slick mags than stick with the old Bendix

Just another personal preference.  Champ/Chief, Ford/Chevy, etc.  I dropped a Unison once and it broke<G>

Same here...because they're about $5 to $10 per plug cheaper than Champions (although I do have a fondness for the "Champion" 7AC).  I've never had any trouble with them.

John,

That brings up a good question. Other than the one breaking when PC dropped it
has anyone had any problems with the Unisom plugs? I have to admit that I am
using one in one cylinder where clearance is tight on my engine.

Engine seems to run fine, no change between one mag to the other but doubt that
one plug would show up unless it was not working at all.

Now if a company named "Chief or Chiefton" started making plugs, that would be a
world of difference and they would be head and shoulders better than the old
Champion! :)

They went to the shorter version in 1997.
