I was contacted by Larry Stewart (334-320-6462) from Alabama.  He is 75 and phasing out of aviation.  He is selling his 1963 Lancer 402, N9931Y.  700 hrs engines and airframe.  Original fabric and interior.  Always hangered.  He calls it a time capsule.  Serial #9 of 26 built. Has all logbooks. Not in annual.   He is asking $40,000.   Two pictures attached.   Call him directly.

Wish I could, but actually don't know why...except they have always fascinated me since I saw the first one at Torrance in about '63.   Wheel yoke up front along with a play like gear switch.  Stick  in back.   roger

Isn't it Cirrus that just came out with a new trainer with a pretend gear switch included?

Richard in OH who first thought of Roger when I saw it was a Lance for sale...))

There is also one for sale in camarillo, the market is flush with them....LOL.  I wish I had the time, money and room for one now, but instead I got the one from Oxnard in my hangar in Georgia and it is a 50 year project for someone that knows what they are doing, and has the time, of which I don't qualify in either category.     At least I saved it from the dump, got data plate, registration and all of it, engines, props, etc,  Only missing the phony gear switch.

Very very cool.  Someday I will roll up to a flyin in one of these.  The only thing uglier is my face.....

On Barnstormers, one right above the other, someone one here needs to get both.  First the C3 with E113 engine, $20K.   If my dad was still around, I'd be watching it get rebuilt for me to then fly.    Rafael, yuo need that one.     Then the beautiful Tri Champ is sitting there for reasonable price.  If I had a medical, you'd be watching me arrive at Middleton next June in it.   I just have a warm spot in my heart for them.  Got my PPL in one.  Unfortunately, they do have poor ground handling on a windy day...want to blow over forward.   Someone grab that!   roger

Roger - I have never flown a Lancer; have you?  I do like the Trichamp - I gave quite a bit of dual in two of them in the 1960s. The Lancers would be cheap multi time for youngsters trying to build time.

No Jerry. Haven’t.   Only been even close to one at Torrance.  I’m not sure about it’s value as a twin trainer really.  Can’t feather, no single engine ceiling as I remember, would only as you say add hours kinda cheap. You definitely would not be a real twin pilot even if you could fly it.  I wonder if you could even get a multi rating in it without some kind of restriction.   (I still want one though)    roger

I think you can get a multi rating in it. But it’s not a complex, so doesn’t count for complex time. But a multi is a multi. I like unusual stuff, so I’d love to show up at a large fly in in one. I got my multi back in the 60s in a Bamboo Bomber. Same problem- non feathering props and a negative single engine climb rate at gross weight. At typical operating weight we could barely hang on to a low altitude.

Here’s an interesting and not very favorable review on one, mostly from a Flying magazine review.    But.....I still want one.  roger

So you can’t get a multi in a Bamboo Bomber anymore either. How stupid.

Not too many of those around anymore I'm guessing.   A beautiful one down in Lawrenceburg, TN.  Restored by the same guy who restored the super beautiful Champ that was up at Middletown several times back.   roger

Roger what is 'THOSE' you are referring to the C-50 or the 402?

Richard in OH who has always been fascinated with the 402, wonders if the 402 could be converted into a tailwheel making it super-cool, and preferred Sky King and Penny flying the C-50 (AT-17) to the 310

Richard.  A Bobcat.  And yea, much better than the C310.  "Penny to Songbird, Penny to Songbird!  Come in Sky King!"    roger

Roger -
It’s a T-50, or UC-78.
