When the gun is removed from the airplane, E and F versions, is the
gun attached to the ammunition drum and removed as a unit or is it
removed separately from the ammunition drum? Have a book that says it
comes out as one one unit but I'm not sure if that's right.

It goes out and in the aircraft as one unit.

My next question is how is it removed?

Thanks,

Jason,

please check in the files Section the image "Deci080.jpg" to see how
the removal/installation works. After removing cover panels,
electrical and hydraulical connections and loosing the mounts the gun
can be removed from the aircraft. Installation si vica versa but the
gun then has to be calibrated. I never got in touch with the job
( only loaded/unloaded the gun ) but I think this is roughly how it is
done.

Cheers

So the ammunition drum is removed separately by taking out the radar,
correct?

No Jason,

removed in one peace. The radar remains untouched. Only the radomwe
has to be opened for removing the gun muzzle I think.
