If you are referring to the F-4K/M (FG.1/FGR.2) Phantoms, I believe the door is the auxillary air door for the Spey engine. The doors are located on each side of the rear fuselage about where the national insignia would be for the U.S. or German jets.

Have a good day,

Subject: Door on F-4 Phantom of RAF

Hi everybody.

I was today in the flugzeugforum and had found some pictures of the
phantom with an open door on the aft fuselage.
I think it is in addition with the engines that are installed on this
aircraft, but i'm not sure.
This door is installed on above the aft end of the wing and on the
fuselage.
On all pictures that i have seen, is this panel open.
Now my question.
What is the reason of this gate and was does it controll?
Thanks for your help.

Spooky.
In regards to your e-mail about the door above the aft wing... I can
tell you that on F-4E models there is a small hinged door
approximately the size of a CD case, with one snoopy type fastener.
this door is located slightly aft of the wing, halfway up the
fuselage, within the raduis of the backbone and engines. This door was
used to gain access to the "Coke Bottle" which was a rather large pin
used to hold the engine into the aircraft. The pin was shaped very
much like a coca-cola bottle (hence the name)and was installed into a
receptacle (bottom of the bottle first) and then the engine slid into
position on a trailer. Once properly slid into place a stockade type,
thick clamp is hinged over the end locking the pin in place.
