I have some queries about the ezLCD modules. I plan on possibly using
ezLCD for an industrial I/O testing system. The results of the testing
would be displayed on the LCD. The project will use PIC/Atmel micro
controllers.
ezLCD Sales/Technical support has failed to respond to these queries
since the last 5 days. I do need the answers to these queries soon.
1 - Is there a possibility of ezLCD controller board being used with
LCDs larger than 10.4 inches? Is the controller board available
separate from the LCDs themselves?
2 - In the 10.4 inch LCD, is there an option available with resolution
of 800x600 pixels or more? The 8 inch LCD has this resolution but the
10.4 inch one has a smaller resolution. Anyone who has used the 10.4
inch LCD, please comment on the increased size vs decreased resolution
and its effect on the quality of the image being displayed. Is there
any kind of pixelation due to this?
3 - A 12VDC power supply is included in the ezLCD development kits.
Can any one provide some details of this power supply such as input
voltage, output current, dimensions, etc? Is this a wall adapter?
4 - I need an LCD solution which is capable of being comfortably read
in daylight/sunlight operation. The ezLCD+105 (8 inches) has a
brightness of 220nits which seems too low for being viewable in
daylight. The ezLCD+101 (10.4 inches) has a brightness of 400nits
which is lower than the 500nits+ recommended for daylight operation
per Hi-Brite LCD specifications (thus not being suitable for sunlight
operation). Would it be possible for anyone to provide images of the
two LCDs mentioned above in daylight operation and direct sunlight
operation? This is a key issue affecting the purchase decision.
5 - How rugged is the touchscreen used on the ezLCD? Is it an
industrial grade touchscreen?
6 - Normally, transflective LCDs are used for daylight/sunlight
operation.
However, the LCDs used with ezLCD modules are transmissive. How much
would this hinder visibility and are better transflective options
available?
I would appreciate it if anyone who has any idea on the above issues
could comment on any observations with regards to them.
Thanks.
I cannot speak to many of your questions, but I can offer a couple of
pictures of a smaller device (the ezLCD+103 - 3.5" version) outside in
direct sunlight:
in direct sunlight, on maximum brightness setting, still readable in
person (picture does not do screen justice):

still outside, but shaded (in shadow created by user), easily readable
down to ~60% brightness:

Hope this helps.
