Dear friends.

I am currently in Gondar Ethiopia on an Orbis program and was requested to assist in repairing a surgical microscope.

At some time the foot-pedal  cord was ripped out of the connector that plugs into the microscope stand. Of course with nothing but a bunch of wires hanging out of the cable reconnecting is impossible without a schematic diagram.

Does anybody have a wiring diagram of the following:

Zeiss FS 2
14F/9M
304979-9020

Used with a (currently unusable) Zeiss Visu 150 ophthalmic surgical microscope.

The local Eye Hospital and our Biomed colleagues here would greatly appreciate your assistance, as would I.

Much appreciated,

Leo

Hi Leo,

I believe that all  newer Zeiss foot-pedals may work interchangeably with different models of Zeiss floor stands ...if this is the case then I attach a diagram for an S3 stand, including footpedal inputs, which may help some, although there is no color coding, etc, to help identify the wires.

It may help narrow the search  if you can provide the specific model of the floor stand (S7, S8, other?)

Best,

Ismael

Hi Leo,

Please let us know how you made out with the footpedal repair.

It will be nice to be able to share with this group the correct wire color coding and pinout for the Zeiss footpedal connector  once it is determined.

Warm Regards,

Ismael

I have this idea.

We could prepare a list if “frequently asked questions” or “ Some Common Equipment Scenarios”  in a manual type that could be posted on ORBIS Cybersight ….just a thought.

Thanks & Regards,

Joan

Hi Joan,

Great idea, thanks.

The ORBIS Cyber-Sight E-resources section already has the Eye Care Equipment Minute section which I initiated before I left ORBIS: http://telemedicine.orbis.org/bins/volume_page.asp?cid=1-11702-11703

This section could certainly house these commonly encountered maintenance scenarios as you mention, but it needs someone with equipment expertise at ORBIS- or alternatively an externally contracted person- to collect, catalog, edit and post these scenarios.

Very Best,

Ismael

Thanks Ismael.

I will discuss potential with Joan Brown, our new Tele-health Director, who is cc here.

Then we could also translate to Spanish and French  as well..

Thanks & Regards,

Joan

Hi Ismael,

Haven’t managed to  decipher the emails regarding the foot pedal wiring.  The stand ID is S-7.
Once I have the details I would like to get a diagram of the wiring including wire codes (i.e. white-red  white- green etc.) I think this will be immensely helpful for all our colleagues.

We are leaving Gondar tomorrow so I will have to email the details to the local hospital Biomeds later, once I have all the required info.

Thanks to all for your help so far.

Leo

Hi Leo,

I'm not sure you have received what you wanted. Sounded like the cable was torn from the FCP connector that would plug into the stand. Many of the footpedals are interchangeable, and some of our colleagues have noted that. I have experienced the same problem, but on an S4 ceiling mount ophthalmic microscope. Here is a document that helped me with the wiring. Very tedious soldering everything back in place! The manual is close to what you require, but not exact. Have a look. This manual was for a 304979-9020 FCP. The document is in pdf and is about 716kb.
