Slit lamp beam

HI group, hope you are all well

I have a slit reichert slit lamp that does not focus a slit optic precisely.  It looks like 2 beams when narrowed to 1 mm optic sections.  I have not found anything on this site, but if there is such discussion on how a slit lamp works, or how to adjust, I would appreciate such link.

Hi Matthew,

Is it possible the lamp or reflector is not aligned and you could be seeing two light sources, the filament and its reflection from the reflector? There should be just one filament with the reflected filament directly behind the lamp filament. You could use a paper to determine if the two beams are two filaments at a low light setting. As you move the paper away from the slit lamp the filiments will become visible.  The 1 mm slit is not narrow enough to form a single slit diffraction pattern on the paper.

Hi Matthew,

I hope, you solved your slitlamp complaint.

If not yet, please  check the binocular holding screw (very important never open or disturb the binocular optics).

Please do the following 

Step 1: fix the slit lamp test rod.

Step 2: keep the thin (narrow) slit beam on test rod.

Step 3: slightly open the binocular holding screw then move the binocular front and back slowly upto you get the focused slit beam on the test rod.(make sure always hold binocular after open the screw

and never take away).
