Hi all,

do any group members have instructions on how to recalibrate  a Perkins style tonometer?

I have lots of experience recalibration goldmann stlye but no experience with Perkins.

to be clear its is recalibration of error I'm interested in learning, not verifying the calibration :)

Thanks in advance

greetings from Scotland

Darren

Dear Darren: Goldmann tonometer is all mechanical instrument and due to wear and tare or displacement of moving parts the instruments need recalibration and it can be done. However Perkins tonometer is an electronic instrument. It should not require recalibration as long as the electronics functions. There is no wear and tare. If electronics fails the instrument will have to be discarded unless one can get the spares for the electronic board with the IC chips.Srinivasan

Hi thanks for your reply, I was under the impression that this style of perkins were mechanical and could be recalibrated.

I know there are electronic perkins which you can do nothing with.

                Thanks again

Dear Darren,

I have been in touch with my friends at HS UK (formerly Clement Clarke) and they have just emailed me back asking if your instrument is a MK2 or MK 3. I am not sure whether I would get a better answer than the one received from Prof Srinivasan who I acknowledge is the fountain of all knowledge on such equipment, but you never know.

I look forward to hearing from you.l

Kind regards,

Phil

hi thanks, we have both models in use but MK 2 is more common.

this is not to repair specific item but more for my own info and for future use.  I'm sure HS will recalibrate (for a price) so not to sure if they will give instructions…

thanks for your efforts

Darren
